Jane, as well as being my daughter, is my best friend and a true gift from God that has lightened my life. I thank God for her. Jane really is a special girl. As she entered this world everyone celebrated her coming with fireworks and bonfires, and so it has continues throughout her life's adventures. She was born in England but left to live in Nigeria when she was one and a half years old. Her big sister Vicky was her constant companion and playmate until she was three, when she took over the responsibility of keeping her younger brothers in order. I'm sure that Chris, Tim and Michael would agree that she takes her responsibility as seriously now as she did then. Jane has a talent for organisation. As a youngster she trained and performed with her own dance group of local children and her attempts at organising me are, needless to say, ongoing, but not as successful as the dance troupe. Hard work is part of Jane's make-up. She gained entrance to the prestigious Queens Secondary School in Enugu and continued working hard at The Thomas Alleyne School, which she joined in 1991 on her return to the UK. She was Head Girl in her final year and also gained the Queen's Scout Award during her time with the Venture Scouts. At university in Salford, she again achieved a remarkable success in the mind-bending subject of Physics and was awarded a First Class Honours Degree. After a year's industrial experience in Horsham with Applied Materials, she returned to academic life to pursue a very demanding research project for her PhD, and earlier this year I became the proud parent of Dr Jane! I barely have the strength to lift her thesis yet alone read and understand it! During her time at Guildford, she visited New Mexico and Taiwan for conferences and Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen-Yes the Queen! I know that behind her success has been a steady, kind and loving support that helped her through hard times and rejoiced with her in happy times. He now sits right beside her as he husband. I fist met Imran when, as part-time taxi driver I did the University run to collect Jane from Hall in Salford. He willingly transported numerous boxes along winding corridors, up and down stairs from her room to the car. Little did he know that this was just a practice run for many moves to follow.
